For once, Justin Bieber didn’t do anything obnoxious to provoke headlines.
In fact, he’s an innocent but still central party in what is turning out to be some legal drama in New York involving a gender discrimination and wrongful termination complaint with that state’s Division of Human Rights, according to Billboard and other publications.
A former female employee at a Long Island hospital filed the complaint, alleging she was wrongfully fired after being accused of illegally accessing the singer’s medical file after he was admitted to the hospital for an injury related to his testicles.
Back in May, Bieber made an emergency visit to the hospital after he thought a soccer injury might have left one of his testicles twisted.
An examination showed that Bieber’s testicles were fine. But the female staffer, Kelly Lombardo, was accused of checking out his medical files after hearing rumors he was admitted for an STD instead of a testicle injury.
Her attorney, David H. Rosenberg, says that her employers didn’t believe her denials, implying that because she was a young female, she must have been curious to know why Bieber was in the emergency room.
“My client never accessed Mr. Bieber’s medical file,” Rosenberg told Page Six and other publications on Tuesday. “She was falsely accused of doing so on account of her gender.”
Lombardo and Rosenberg are waiting for a copy of the position statement, but they’re “looking forward to vigorously prosecuting” the case.
Bieber’s rep didn’t immediately return a request from Page Six for comment.
