Jose Mourinho remains grounded following Manchester United's 4-0 drubbing of West Ham, but is optimistic about prospects

Jose Mourinho insisted he was too experienced to get carried away by Manchester United’s swashbuckling start to the season.

Romelu Lukaku scored twice on his home debut in what the Belgium international striker described as “a dream come true” as United crushed West Ham 4-0 at Old Trafford, with goals from Anthony Martial and Paul Pogba sealing an impressive victory.

But while Mourinho was delighted with his players for going for the jugular rather than settling for a “boring” end to the game, the United manager said he would not read too much into the result.

“Fans have reason to be optimistic because we are also,” Mourinho said. “But, for me, with years and years of experience in the Premier League, my feet are on the ground. I am on the calm.

“Last season we were also top after the first match and we finished sixth so this means nothing, I want to make it clear, we just played well and confidence levels are high.
