Moments after the 53-man roster deadline passed, the Steelers announced they traded CB Ross Cockrell to the Giants for a conditional draft pick in the 2018 NFL Draft.
It’s an unexpected move for the Giants, but not a surprising one given the concern for depth at cornerback with Eli Apple battling an ankle sprain, Michael Hunter Jr. in concussion protocol and Valentino Blake leaving the team for personal reasons.
The Giants have yet to release their 53-man roster, but it likely means Blake will not be returning to the team.
Cockrell, a four-year veteran, played the last two seasons in Pittsburgh, starting in all 16 games last year. He finished the season with 62 tackles, 14 pass defenses and fumble recovery.
