Firefighters douse 1-acre fire in Valley Center

Firefighters stopped a grass fire at about one acre before it could damage any structures in Valley Center Saturday.

It burned relatively close to homes off Woods Valley Road and Woods Valley Court, a Cal Fire spokesman said.

The fire was reported about 3:30 p.m. Sheriff’s deputies blocked Valley Center Road between Woods Valley and South Lake Wohlford Road for about an hour to make room for fire engines.

Crews had most of the flames out by about 4:15 p.m. and were mopping up hot spots, a sheriff’s official said.

Investigators were called in to try to determine what ignited the blaze.
